Step-by-step solution

  1. Cash App takes a percentage of the whole payment

    $100.00×2.6%=$2.60
  2. The fee is that percentage plus any fixed fee, rounded to the nearest cent

    $2.60+$0.15=$2.75
  3. Take the fee off the payment to see what reaches you

    $100.00−$2.75=$97.25

20 quick questions built from this calculator's formula: work out results, predict what happens when an input changes, and work backward from an answer. Every answer comes with the working.

Please note: Results are estimates for planning and comparison. Lenders, banks, and tax authorities may round differently or include fees not modeled here, so confirm figures with your provider before deciding.

What this calculator does

Find out what Cash App takes from a business payment, and what an instant transfer could cost you. Sending money from your balance, bank or debit card is free, so the fees here are the ones that apply to selling and to moving money out quickly.

Rates were checked on October 31, 2026. Cash App sets instant transfer fees within a range and shows yours at the time of the transfer, so treat that option as an example and enter your own rate if it's different.

Where it's used

Why this math matters outside the classroom:

  • Small vendors. A market seller sees a flat 3% costs $0.30 on $10, less than the $0.41 business rate.
  • Service work. A barber who wants $100 per job asks for $102.82 through a business account.
  • Getting paid fast. A driver works out what instant transfers cost in a month and switches to standard.
  • Bookkeeping. A small business records a $100 sale as $97.25 received plus a $2.75 fee expense.

How to use it

  1. Choose whether you want the fee on an amount, or the amount to ask for.
  2. Pick the payment type, or enter the rate your app shows.
  3. Enter the amount, or the amount you want to receive.
  4. Read the fee and the amount you keep.

What the inputs mean

Payment type
Business account rates apply to payments received by a Cash App business account. Instant transfer applies when you move your balance to a bank or card right away.
Amount you want to receive
This is the money you want left after the fee.

Formula and method

fee = amount × rate + fixed fee
instant transfer fee = amount × your rate, at least the minimum and at most the maximum
amount to ask for = (target + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − rate)

Cash App's help pages list 2.6% plus 15 cents for a business account payment from a customer's Cash App account, and a flat 3% for Tap to Pay. The fee comes off before the money reaches your balance.

Cash App's terms list instant transfers at 0.5% to 2.5%, with a minimum of 25 cents to $1 and a maximum of $75. The app shows the exact fee before you confirm. Our example option uses 1.75% with a 25-cent minimum. A standard transfer is free and usually takes 1 to 3 business days.

Worked example

A customer pays your Cash App business account $100, at 2.6% plus $0.15.

  1. The percentage part is $100 × 2.6% = $2.60.
  2. Add the fixed fee: $2.60 + $0.15 = $2.75.
  3. Take it off the payment: $100 − $2.75 = $97.25.

Result: The fee is $2.75 and you receive $97.25. To receive a full $100, you'd ask for $102.82, and the fee would be $2.82.

Understanding the result

Tap to Pay has no fixed fee, so it beats the business rate on very small sales. Below about $37.50, a flat 3% costs less than 2.6% plus 15 cents. Above that, the business rate wins, but your customer needs a Cash App account to use it.

Instant transfer fees add up if you use them each time you're paid. Moving $100 out four times a month at 1.75% costs $7. Waiting for standard transfers costs nothing.

If your account is a personal one and you're being paid for business, read Cash App's terms. It may ask you to switch to a business account.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Payments are in US dollars between US accounts.
  • The fee is rounded to the nearest cent. Cash App's terms say it uses banker's rounding, which can differ by a cent on exact half cents.
  • The instant transfer option is an example at 1.75%. Your own rate may be anywhere in Cash App's published range.
  • Cash App's terms say your business fee is shown when you open, use or switch to a business account, so the app has the final word.
  • Sending from a credit card costs 3% and isn't listed as an option here. Enter it as your own rate if you'd like to see it.
  • Bitcoin, stock, ATM and card fees aren't included. This is an estimate.
